qualitative research trauma care researchThe main goal of this project is to complete a literature review and a report of findings. The literature review should be comprised of research on sexual consent education in the Western (primarily North American) context to contribute to a larger project aiming to improve gender-based prevention education related to consent. The literature review should focus on qualitative research on consent education programming that is embedded in sexuality education and in stand-along programming. The final report will synthesize the central research on consent education, and identify trends, best practices, and gaps in the research. The literature review will also involve the concept of queer and trans joy, as it is central to emerging research discussing the effectiveness of gender-based violence prevention education. The literature review will involve summarizing research on the concept of queer and trans joy, particularly as it pertains to sexual joy.
The literature review should focus on the Western (predominantly North American) context and answer the following questions:
- What is the current state of consent education research?
- What is the research saying about the effectiveness of consent education?
- What are best practices identified in the research?
- What are the gaps in research?
- How are Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, disabled, 2SLGBTQIA+ youth accounted for in consent education research?
- Is there programming or research that specifically tailors to the needs of trans and non-binary people (particularly those who are multiple marginalized) in consent education?
- Is there programming or research that specifically tailors to the needs of trauma survivors in consent education?
- How is queer and trans joy discussed in academic literature?
The final report should summarize the articles that have been reviewed, make connections between them to identify and explain themes and best practices, as well as note gaps for further research.
I will provide initial direction and a background on the overarching study so that the student will be clear about what the objectives of the literature review are. I will be available to meet with the student should there be any challenges during the literature review or report writing stages. I will supervise the student by checking in with them about the progress of the work to make sure they feel the work is on track.
