academic advising student services mentorshipWe would like to collaborate with selected students in creating useful academic resources that will make the process of course selection and registration easier for our students while providing training and mentorship in academic advising and student services for those selected.
Tasks may involve:
- Reviewing and analyzing the Course and Program Catalogue for programs offered through the College of Arts and Science in the University of Saskatchewan
- Identifying prerequisite for courses in each program type and arranging courses in the sequence they should be taken across levels.
- Identifying areas of overlaps in program requirements where a student might be able to complete multiple programs with a limited number of credits.
- Highlighting and matching academic policies to programs with complex requirements.
By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:
- Understanding of the courses and programs in the College of Arts and Science
- Ability to correctly sequence courses in the order they should be taken for a degree.
- Identify options for students wanting to graduate with multiple programs with a limited number of courses.
- A good understanding of the university’s Academic Policies
Final deliverable:
- An outline of course sequences per level of program for a given program in the College of Arts and Science, University of Saskatchewan.
- A final report
Students will be provided a sample of an outlined course sequence for a given program showing overlapping options for multiple certificates within the program. Students will also be able to connect directly with an academic advisor who will be able to provide guidance, mentorship, and training on how to access relevant information needed for the project.
About the Community Partner
The Undergraduate Student Office (UGSO) of the College of Arts and Science is a high-functioning unit within student services at the University of Saskatchewan. The UGSO provides academic advising to students with a goal to seek out opportunities to engage in and support initiatives that exemplify best practices for academic advising and academic services.
