design studio game design user experience (ux) artificial intelligenceEnglish Islands is revamping the design of its AI-powered literacy platform. In this project, students will help design & create games that help students learn how to read. No coding skills are required, but experience in UI/UX design, computer science and Figma prototyping would be a strong background for working on this project.
Instead of building games with code, students will use our proprietary no-code design studio to design and create animated literacy games for kids! You can learn more here.

What you'll do:
- Learn about our early literacy platform and how it helps kids learn to read
- Learn to use our platform to build new games to help kids learn to read
- Test your game designs to ensure everything is working properly
What you’ll achieve:
- Create ~6 literacy games for students across North America to play!
- Build skills in design, especially in educational design/design for kids
- Learn how to create, edit and test exciting UI/UX for education
Timelines & evaluations:
- Students will work during the summer, approx. 4-6 hours per day
- Students' work will be evaluated on how smoothly the games work, how enjoyable they are for kids, and how well they effectively teach students.
Providing specialized, in-depth knowledge and general industry insights for a comprehensive understanding.
Sharing knowledge in specific technical skills, techniques, methodologies required for the project.
Direct involvement in project tasks, offering guidance, and demonstrating techniques.
Providing access to necessary tools, software, and resources required for project completion.
Scheduled check-ins to discuss progress, address challenges, and provide feedback.

About the Community Partner
We're working to solve the literacy crisis in North America, where up to 2 out of 3 children are below grade reading level. To support students both inside and outside the classroom, we built an AI-powered literacy tutor that teaches and assesses like a real teacher!
