Spinning Forward is Toronto’s only independent local media outlet focused on amplifying the voices of content creators of color, aged 16 to 34 years old. ✊🏽🎤 As a social impact organization, our stories include articles, short and long-form videos about how young people navigate issues they care about in real life and online. 🌍📱

Brand Book and Social Media Content Calendar
Spinning Forward seeks two university students to create a brand book and a social media content calendar. This is an opportunity to develop practical skills in branding and digital marketing while supporting an active organization. Key Responsibilities Research Spinning Forward’s brand and audience. Collaborate with the supervisor to define brand identity and messaging. Draft the brand book covering narrative and visual identity. Plan and organize a social media content calendar. Develop and schedule consistent social media content promoting events and brand messages. Integrate brand identity into marketing materials and social media strategies. Skills Strong writing and storytelling skills. Basic branding knowledge. Familiarity with social media platforms and content planning. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and meet deadlines.
Amplify content creators of color through social media content creation and event marketing for a Toronto local media company
– Focus on social media content creation, promotion, and event marketing related to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) creators in Toronto/GTA – Produce, edit, and optimize short, engaging clips for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube from longer video interviews – Research event partners/sponsors and promote virtual and in-person events through digital campaigns – Be a team player; attend meetings and participate by adding your ideas to help grow our local audience through content and events
Research & Writer/Journalist for Local Media Company
Research and write 3 to 4 stories based on assigned topics during the project Work with the publisher and director to research and create content for Spinning Forward's online presence (website, newsletter, and social media) Attend a weekly meeting with the team to give updates on your progress Research assign topics for stories and organize information with headings and sections. Research local experts and find contact information that we may interview in the Toronto region Produce at least 3 or 4 stories during the project by following good time management skills and deadlines Research and monitor content creators and influencers on social media in the Toronto region. Strong curiosity, listening, and problem-solving skills Research, organize, rewrite, fact-check, and submit edits for stories on a deadline Learn about the Toronto region and what makes it work and not work for young people
ENGAGEMENT/MARKETING INTERN for local news media company
The main objective for an Engagement/Marketing Intern is to contribute to Spinning Forward's strategy to engage in the community in the Toronto area through events and social media creation and marketing. Convert newsletter content and audio/video interview content to short catchy social media posts in the form of slides or short-form videos. Help plan an in-person or online event. Assist in researching sponsors for events and content Produce and publish 10-15 pieces of content (image and content), help organize 1 event, and research 3 potential sponsors.
